Wiz Challenge

So I'm in this group called scraps of color, ever so often there is a challenge offered. this one was characters from the wiz! what a great movie, so with the challenge u are given an image, and some instruction on what to do with each, upon completing and posting the project u will receive the next image, if u dont complete it u will not advance to the next round. so lets begin:
you can choose any form of art as u please, to use the image, i chose a card, THE TIN MAN is the 1st image, he had to have glitter, a yellow brick road and a metal embellishment!
next is the LION,  he needed to have the word courage and some dry embossing, or twine, i chose dry embossing.
THE SCARECROW, isnt he just the cutest! for the next few i decided on tags to switch it up a lil. it needed to be a brick wall, and something recycled, so i chose plastic bags to make his stomach and legs.

DOROTHY, is by far my favorite, she came out absolutely gorgeous and so colorful and vibrant! a die cut was needed some bling and the yellow brick road.

u guessed it! the mean BAD WITCH evilene was her name and dont nobody bring her no bad news. this one was anything goes! lol she sure is ugly, but in a good kinda way lol.
And last but not least , u need THE WIZ (ard)  his requirements was to have 2 pieces of bling, and red somewhere on the project and the word hope! i hope u enjoyed my rendition of the wiz as much as i enjoyed creating them. all images were drawn by Robert Jackson.

Re purposed decor

Needed  some quick and inexpensive decor for  a last minute gathering at church, like most churches there is no budget for such things so we look within, the colors for the event was purple and gold, so I remembered one year that's how I decorated my home for Christmas.  Out came the bulbs and some cylinder vases and rose balls and some paper crafted butterflies for a special touch and wallah!
pretty cute if I do say so myself!!

Pay it forward!

I have a beautiful friend who was diagnosed with stage 4  breast cancer early on. After dealing with her own battle she decided to start a non profit organization to help other women like herself. I met this person from another friend who also had cancer. This young lady had the most beautiful spirit u could image, she often spoke of the organization and donated her time and services. The organization is called Shay Sharpe's Pink Wishes. Every year Shay  holds these beautiful black tie fundraisers to support her cause. My friend Dana would tell me about the events and how nice they were and that I should come. Thus far there has been three events, the objective of the foundation is to grant wishes to terminal cancer patients under the age of 40. What a wonderful idea I thought! So I told my friend I would definitely attend the next. Dana was also the 1st recipient of one of these grand wishes. Her wish was to take her family to sea world and Shay saw it fit to make her wish come true. FFW a bit a year has passed and I lost my beautiful spirited friend to this horrible disease. At this time I hadn't met Shay personally but I had been supporting her cause because I supported Dana and I was hurt tat I'd lost my friend. I promised my friend I'd attend the next function with her, but she hadn't lived long enough for me to do so. So here we are another year was approaching, and I'd keep my promise to my friend, I'd go to the fundraiser anyway, unknowing my very best friend had also just been diagnosed with this horrible thing as well. So when I  got that news, I immediately told my bestie to contact Shay, and that she could help her with questions or anything she may need to know. My bestie (Charlene)  friended and started following Shay on fb. Charlene has her surgery and is doin well (cancer had been removed and was on the mend)

Its funny how small the world is, Charlene's daughter (my god daughter) wanted to get a breast cancer tattoo in support of her mother, they go to the shop, while Charlene is waiting, she strikes a conversation with the tattoo artist about wanting to do a coverup, and that she followed a young lady  (SHAY) on fb whose cover up she had been admiring.. NELLIE the tattoo artist says "If u hang around, u can meet her shes on her way" Nellie was the artist who did Shay's cover up! Isn't that something!! So she stays, they meet and she tells Shay how she knows of her (me) mind u Shay and I still at this point never met in person. She knew who I was and they took a photo and from this something wonderful was born.

I told Charlene that we should go to the fundraiser and that's what we did and although I knew what Shay was doin, I could have never prepared myself for the event, the stories, the women... I knew walking away that night, that even though I'd been donating,  walking and supporting breast cancer, I KNEW I HADNT DONE ENOUGH!

Wheels were turning, I knew I could do more, that I needed to do more so Charlene and I decided to put together a fundraiser and we'd raise money to help Shay grant a wish. So I put the ball in motion, I contacted friends who could possible help with this task. I contacted an old high school friend who promotes parties and ask how could I go about this I explained my cause and he granted my wish! He DONATED a space and promoted our party. Then I contacted a photographer friend, a dj, and graphic designer for a flyer, other folks with small businesses to help with the cause. ALL DONATED THEIR SERVICES. SO NOW WE ARE HAVING A PARTY!!!
yes that my bestie Charlene
So we paid it forward by having this free event and it turned out to be a success, Shay was overwhelmed and a blossoming friendship was born, all because of my beautiful friend Dana who isn't even here to know she is still spreading joy!
here are some pics from our event

Love Day

As we know Valentine's day is quickly approaching, i was in the pharmacy picking up my prescription and balloons were everywhere! Got me thinkin, geez its still January, but i know that time will pass rather quickly! but i also know those balloons wont last till then.. so anyway i decided i would get a jump on my valentine's day cards so I decided to make a day of crafting, tried to get my daughter involved but her patience is thin, when she cant do something but here are a few cards i came up with..
just because, i kinda like this kraft colored card stock, what i did with this card was embossed the hearts in white, then restamped in red..simple but nice

you and me, same heart stamp from above but in a distressed ink and added some bakers twine and gold glitter

isnt she the cutest! jumprope she's called, i donated to pure charity and received this lil cutie from Saturated Canary

these are kwarner inspired!

And last but not least, had to come up with something special for my mother!
she collects dolls and has them in  lovely cases so i decided to make hers along that line, i know she will just love it, so if u happen to know my momma shhh she will get hers on Valentine's day as well :)
mixed media.. dress is all paper and put together, isnt it lovely!

Copper Canyon Grill

So there is a new restaurant near by, new to the area but not necessarily a new spot. I decided to check it out one Sunday after church, so my daughter and I grabbed lunch. The menu was listed as brunch but it was not like a buffet with a little of both, but a menu where u could order either breakfast or lunch. That was cool with me, cuz I tend to gravitate toward breakfast, while she preferred lunch. So the place was very nice, live music, great atmosphere and the portion of food was excellent! They also offered the 1st round of drinks on them, i had a bellini (yummy) only one though..
For my meal i decided on the french toast, omg this was heaven on earth! fresh fruit and a grand marnier (sp) sauce this dish um um um
the kid ordered a burger and it looked pretty good as well
we really enjoyed the meal and we had a good time together too, we took pics outside before heading to our next destination, all in all it was a good day!
